Mold Breaker Fellowship began in December 2009 with a simple Bible study in the living room of a home. A small group of believers gathered together, sensing that God was calling them to start something fresh and new in the Waco area. What started as a handful of people seeking God's direction quickly began to grow.
By February 2010, the group had outgrown the living room and moved into a hotel banquet room. During this season, the pastors chose a traditional name, and The Lighthouse Church was officially established. As attendance continued to increase, the church moved into a larger banquet room to accommodate its growth.
On Easter Sunday in 2011, The Lighthouse Church held its first service in a rented storefront building located at 1201 B Lake Air Drive. This marked an exciting new chapter as the church established a more permanent presence in the community.
In 2012, the church entered a season of transition. Pastor Tommy felt God impressing upon his heart a message that challenged the church to move beyond tradition and embrace a fresh approach to ministry. After preaching a series titled "Break the Mold," it became clear that God was leading the church in a new direction.
In 2013, The Lighthouse Church officially became Mold Breaker Fellowship (MBF). The new name reflected the church's mission to present Jesus Christ in a way that reaches people beyond traditional expectations while remaining firmly grounded in biblical truth.
As the ministry continued to grow, MBF relocated in 2016 to a larger storefront facility at 1545 Wooded Acres Drive. This location served the church well for several years as God continued to bless and expand the ministry.
Like many churches, MBF faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through faith, perseverance, and God's faithfulness, the church emerged stronger and prepared for another new chapter. After exploring the possibility of purchasing a church building, MBF ultimately began renting a smaller church facility located at 7509 Fairway Road in Woodway.
Although the building was leased, the congregation embraced it as their own. Members invested countless hours renovating and updating the sanctuary and other areas of the property to create a welcoming home for ministry. In 2021, MBF held its first service in the newly renovated former Westwood Baptist Church building.
In 2023, God opened the door for MBF to purchase the property, securing a permanent home for the church and its future ministry efforts.
Following the purchase of the campus, MBF expanded its vision by launching Waco Christian Academy, providing Christ-centered education for families in the community. What began as a church plant meeting in a living room had now grown into a thriving church and school ministry serving people throughout Central Texas.
Today, as Mold Breaker Fellowship and Waco Christian Academy continue to grow, we remain committed to seeking God's direction for the future. Whether that means constructing new facilities, expanding our current campus, or acquiring additional property, our desire is to follow where God leads and continue impacting lives with the love and hope of Jesus Christ.
What began with a handful of believers around a living room Bible study has become a testimony of God's faithfulness, provision, and vision. We believe the best is yet to come.
